How will I be scored?
Since everyone is given an equal amount of time for each discipline (15 minutes), we
simply take the distance that you covered and divide by the time to determine the pace.
After pace has been determined we transfer these values to the distances covered in a
sprint distance triathlon (750 yard Swim, 20K Bike, 5K Run).
For example: If an athlete swam 450 yards,
biked 5K (3.1 miles) and ran 3K (1.8 miles), the time per discipline will be determined
using the following equations:
Swim Distance: 450 yards in 15 minutes = 30 yards/minute
Sprint Distance: 750 yards / 30 yards/minute = 25 Minute Swim Result
Bike Distance: 5K in 15 minutes = .333K/minute
Sprint Distance: 20K / .333K/minute = 60 Minute Bike Result
Run Distance: 3K in 15 minutes = .2K/minute
Sprint Distance: 5K / .2K/minute = 25 Minute Run Result
Total Time = 25 minutes for the swim + 60 minutes for the bike + 25 minutes for the run =
110 minutes (1 hour, 50 minutes).
